It may have been raining, but for members of the Class of 2024, it was non-negotiable. They were going to celebrate the graduation that many had been denied in high school because of COVID.
Four years after coming to college in the unprecedented conditions of the pandemic—social distancing, remote meetings and masked interactions—these students showed the payoff to their perseverance when they walked across the Commencement stage. This group’s dedication and resolve is the focus of celebration for LC Giving Day, set for June 24 in honor of the Class of 2024.
“I’ve personally seen the need for new and improved classroom media, funds to help continue our undergraduate research, and scholarships to benefit our students who might otherwise not be able to pursue their dreams,” said Lindsey Green, a Class of 2024 graduate.
Contributions made for LC Giving Day go to the LaGrange College Fund, which supports financial aid, like scholarships, as well as resources for classrooms and undergraduate research along with other critical needs. These gifts will benefit the students who are still working toward a degree.
“I would not have been able to attend college without scholarships,” said Zentrina Choice ’26. “My mom has done a whole lot for my two siblings and myself. Having scholarships allows a load to be taken off my mother, as she is truly supportive and hard-working.”
Trenton Harrison ’26 said donor-sponsored financial aid has allowed him the freedom to participate in organizations and clubs on campus.
“If I didn’t have access to financial aid, I would have to get more than one job to help pay for tuition,” he said. “I would be using all my free time working or doing homework.”
Additionally, alumnus Michael T. Fay ’86 and Fay Family Investments have pledged to match at least $10,000 in gifts made for LC Giving Day.
“We are so thankful for Michael and his family for making this generous commitment so that our contributors’ gifts count twice as much,” said Rebecca Roth Nicks, LC Vice President for Advancement. “This investment in our students is an example of the dedication our alumni and friends show in helping the next generation succeed.”
